Microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar inertia friction welded 316L stainless steel to A516 ferritic steel for potential applications in nuclear reactors

چکیده
Defect-free welds between A-516 ferritic and 316L austenitic stainless steel were achieved using inertia friction welding (IFW) under varying forge pressures. The microstructural evolution the associated mechanical properties characterised across different weld regimes. free from microcracks demonstrated higher strength hardness than parent metal (PM), indicating enhanced properties. Carbide precipitates not observed at interface, implying no occurrence of sensitisation in steel. presence refined grains coupled with low grain orientation spread (GOS) values was indication continuous dynamic recrystallisation (CDRX) occurring during IFW.

Evaluation of microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir welded copper / 316L stainless steel dissimilar metals
In the present research, friction stir welding (FSW) process was used for butt joining of pure copper plate to 316L stainless steel plate. Mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics of the joint were evaluated by microhardness and tensile tests as well as optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM). It was found that microstructure of the weld nugget (WN) has fine grains where...

متن کاملMicrostructure and Mechanical Properties of the Friction Welded Joint between X53CrMnNiN219 and X45CrSi93 Stainless Steel
Dissimilar metals friction welding of austenitic–martensitic stainless steels is commonly used in order to manufacture engine valves in the automobile industry. In this study, X53CrMnNiN219 (austenitic stainless steel) and X45CrSi93 (martensitic stainless steel) valve steel rods were welded by friction welding process. The welded joint was then heat treated at 760 0C for 60 min. Mechanical prop...
